1974 BMW 2002 Turbo

One of the most recognizable and beloved BMW car families, for many, the 02 series peaked with the introduction of the 2002 Turbo in 1973. With under 1700 units made, the 2002 Turbo is rare, desirable and, most importantly, unbelievably cool. This particular example is original and seemingly well cared for. But with close to 100k kilometers and not being an immaculate museum piece, it also makes it a great option for someone who actually wants to drive and enjoy some fun 70’s turbo action.

1985 Audi Sportquattro

It’s been well established that we love a good homologation special here on AV, and few are as serious as this, the Sportquattro. In the early 80’s Audi dominated rallying after figuring out that four wheel drive was not only competitive…it was a WMD. From 83 on, Audi began work on the Sportquattro, a whole new beast created with the sole purpose of maintaining Audi supremacy and completely crushing the competition. Shorter, lighter and meaner than its predecessor, as well as packed with (at the time) new materials and technologies, the Sportquattro is a monument to Audi at its peak and this example, one of 214 made and just 164 offered to the public, is for sure not inexpensive, but it is one hell of a statement. We do wish the seller had posted more details on it, as there’s some spicy mods afoot we’d like to know details about.

1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV Turbodelta

And speaking of homologation specials…look at this GTV Turbodelta. Seriously, just look at it; the beautiful shape, the black hood, the period graphics. Just *chef’s kiss*. Another low production cutie with just 400 units made, the Turbodelta was meant to homologate the GTV for Group 4 racing. Yet its career was short, having later been dropped in favor of the equally interesting V6 (2.5L, 3.0L and 2.5L Twin Turbo). At just under 50.000 Euros, this one proves that you don’t need six figures to buy something properly special and yes, we know, Alfas in general and GTVs in particular have all sorts of foibles and mood swings which trigger a couple of whoopsies at times, but most cars of this vintage aren’t exactly known for stellar reliability…so maybe the stunning looks and Alfa spirit are worth the extra hassle? Let us know.

2017 Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge

The Black Badge Wraith is a living testimony to the wonders that a lick of paint can do. Well, that and some adjustments to power delivery, suspension, steering and transmission. In its normal iteration, the Wraith is an imposing vehicle, there’s no contesting it, but it’s also a bit…soft. And we don’t mean that in a soft ride kind of way, we mean the looks of it. The shape is complex and in some color combinations, especially in two tones, it appears heavy, bulky and just generally slightly awkward. However, Rolls found out that when you facelift it just a tad and murder it out, it looks incredible. To cruise in absolute comfort, look like a badass and still be a bit of a hooligan every now and then, there’s nothing that comes close to the Wraith Black Badge and that’s why, even at almost ten years old, this variant still commands quite a premium over most regular Wraiths, even the lavishly optioned-out ones.

2008 Aston Martin DBS

If the Rolls is out of your price range, for essentially half the price you can look just as good at the wheel of an Aston DBS. Arguably the prettiest modern Aston and drowning in Bond mystique, this particular example ticks all the right boxes: Casino Royale grey, a proper manual, carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon pack and barely 23.000 kilometers on the clock. Come on, if you can spare the money this one is a pretty much no-brainer.

2001 Saleen S7R

This S7R is actually an old acquaintance of ours here on Automotive Views, as we’re used to bumping into it regularly at the Estoril Classics in Portugal, so we can say that pictures don’t do it justice in the slightest. There are impressive race cars out there and the S7R is without a doubt one of them. This one has been to Daytona, to Sebring and it dominated the 2002 British GT Championship. It is a 7L, V8 circuit weapon and we sincerely hope we’ll be able to see it again very soon doing what it does best: tearing up a race track.

2009 Maybach 57S Xenatec Coupé

Every now and then over the years we’ve featured one of these and we’ll never get over how fantastic they look. This is what Mercedes should have built when the 57 and 62 Maybachs were in production, a Wraith-esq ultra luxury coupe far removed for the regular S-Class looks which, in fairness, the 57s and 62s did come pretty close to; in fact, many argue it as the reason the brand essentially failed at its re-launch in the early 2000’s. With a planned run of one hundred cars, Xenatec reportedly only ended up building eight 57 Coupés, making this a rare gem which would not be out of place at the fanciest, most exclusive of settings; after all, the man responsible for the design was Fredrik Burchard, the creator of the stunning Maybach Excelero. And, of course, it’s why they also trade for seven or eight times the value of a good regular Maybach 57. This particular example is P.O.R. unfortunately, but the last one of these we featured in 2022 had an 800.000 € price tag; plus, this one is being sold by Mechatronik and is essentially brand new with barely 13k kilometers, so you can imagine it certainly won’t be a bargain lot special.
